Our Origin Story
My grandmother was just 45 years old when her doctor told her she had lupus and that there was nothing they could do to help her. On her way home from work one day she stopped at Kensington market for veggies, and the Chinese man who owned the shop asked her why she was losing her hair and the pigmentation of her skin? Certain he could help her, he took her to the back of the shop where he practiced Chinese Medicine. She went home with all kinds of strange plants/roots for medicinal tea, herbal tinctures in a little brown bottles and an alternative way to tackle her disease. From that day forward she took control of her own health, putting aside allopathic medicine and following alternative, wholistic and herbal health care. She lived a strong and vibrant life, free from disease, until she died in 2015 at the age 96. Her story inspired me to follow my own journey of natural healing.
Volunteering at Kolapore Gardens organic farm in 2012, the farmer Mike was brewing a large batch of Kombucha and I loved the alien looking thing that created the fizzy tangy beverage we enjoyed at lunch. I went home with a mason jar filled with starter tea (kombucha) and my very own SCOBY (mother – Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast). My passion for crafting fermented beverage grew, and was greatly appreciated by friends and family. The interest grew and inspired me build a business that helps people on their wellness journey toward better gut health.
